From 1983, we read... Pope John Paul II, in a letter issued today, praised Martin Luther, the father of the Reformation who was ex-communicated from the Roman Catholic Church, saying the world is still ''experiencing his great impact on history.'' In a related development, it was announced that Pope John Paul would preach on Dec. 11 in a Lutheran church. He referred to Luther as the theologian who ''contributed in a substantial way to the radical change in the ecclesiastical and secular reality in the West.'' He continued: ''Our world still experiences his great impact on history.'' The Pope said the anniversary year was ''an occasion to meditate, in Christian truth and charity, on that event engraved in history that was the epoch of the Reformation. www.nytimes.com/1983/11/06/wo...niversary.htmlThese hypocritical hatnods to Luther centuries later (going on to the present day) is nothing but religion gone a muck. Leo X appointed a commission to evaluate Luther's work, which they subsequently condemned in the papal bull Exsurge Domine. Luther's books were thereafter burned and he was ex-communicated in still yet another Bull, not to mention at Trent, where "faith alone" was condemned in no uncertain terms. One gets the impression that your church will do anything to kiss up to their enemies in this modern age, including...dare I say it? beatifying the Reformers!
