My dear Mr. L....I have no doubt that you could
attempt to demonstrate your doctrines from Scripture;
but from what I've seen how those in your camp "demonstrate", I am convinced that your armchair theological gymnastics are based on the flimsiest of implications.
Protestants already
disagree with the Catholic canon, so whatever reason you furnish as to how you got YOURS, will make no impression on ME, so why waste our time? Besides, this thread has to do with the papacy as the source of unity.
In keeping with the theme of this thread, I have already indicated the unbiblical command issued at Vatican 1 which requires allegiance to the Pope as a pre-requisite for heaven, to which you had no response. This is a soul-destroying doctrine, one which the ecumenically minded Catholicism of today would prefer to forget ever happened. But there it stands, in all its "infallible" glory.
To answer your question directly, since the RCC believes in the
material sufficiency of Scripture, that,
ipso facto, means that all one would need to know for salvation is found therein. Well then, isn't it obvious? No where in Holy Writ do we read of any papal office, and no where do we read of any requirement to be subservient to it, let alone of any threats of damnation if one does not comply! It's just as simple as that. This horrific doctrine, which has been placed on the same level as the blood of Jesus Christ (which of course
IS necessary for salvation), is thus an inexcusable addendum to the faith that must be repudiated at once if you expect to be saved.
